The heroine is a 26 year old teacher whose students have learning disabilities. She is strongly attracted to a man she sees briefly during her early morning swims at a Caribbean resort. When his young son is transferred to her class, she recognizes him, but he has only a vague recollection of having seen her before.
After some initial disagreements and challenges, the hero finds himself fascinated by his son's teacher and attempts to establish a relationship. She evades him and discourages such attempts. There is a dark side to her past and she is determined to remain alone and uninvolved.
