How does war change a man? A young Canadian soldier survives the fighting in Italy and France and finds himself unable to face coming back home. Instead, he becomes part of war crimes investigations and finds himself in close contact with a former enemy, an SS general whose magnetic personality enthralls him.
Along the way, the soldier develops a growing awareness of his own sexuality and encounters a new reality he would never have encountered in peacetime. His growing self-confidence in who he is and what he must do leads him into conflict with army regulations and requires that he be interrogated, “debriefed” before he resumes his life.
