Donald (Brother) MacNeil has always lived in Big Pond, the tiny village on the shores of the Bras d’Or Lake where his ancestors put down roots, probably in 1804. In Sgurra Breac and A little More, Donald writes about what he does not want to be forgotten: the farming community of Rear Big Pond that is no more, the “old-time” characters who now live only in other’s memories, and the people who worked together to build an unforgettable community.
Sgurra Breac and A Little More is made up of two parts.
The first is a series of articles Donald wrote for a monthly paper in Big Pond, Cape Breton, published from March of 2004 to March of 2009 - Sgurra Breac. The second, A Little More, begins with a retrospective of his family, his siblings, and those before them, and moves back into a lively telling of life in Big Pond in the ‘50s and more.
